The city of Littleton Colorado is the county seat of Arapahoe County and is located on the South Platte River in the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area. With a population of approximately 42,000 residents, the median age is 36 and the median household income is $73,000.

The history of the town dates back to the “Pikes Peak” gold rush in 1859. One of the engineers working in Denver on irrigation ditches, Richard Sullivan Little of New Hampshire, fell in love with the area south of Denver. He filed a land claim, brought his wife out from the East to cure her asthma and began to farm. Along with several of his neighbors, they built the Rough and Ready Flour Mill in 1867 which was a boon to the local economy.

When the railroad reached the town in 1871, schools, churches, stores and a hotel were part of the community and in 1890, the town of Littleton was incorporated.

Situated only ten minutes from downtown Denver in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the size of the city is 13-1/2 square miles which allows it to retain a small town atmosphere. Littleton boasts nationally acclaimed schools and small class sizes, while more than half of its teachers have advanced degrees.
