Obama comes to town!
February 18th, 2009 Posted in DenverSince accepting his nomination for the democratic party and speaking to what was his largest crowd, 100,000 people, at a Denver rally in October, we hadn’t seen our (now) President in our home state for a while… Until yesterday.
Although you might not agree with his stimulus package or what it might mean to our country’s budget in the long run… he picked Denver, Colorado to sign the bill.
Why?
Colorado is one of the leading states experimenting and doing green energy. Because of the amount of sun we get each year (approximately 300 days) the Denver Museum of Nature and Science has filled their roof with solar panels and use an inverter to change the direct sunlight into electricity which can be used to power lights, televisions and computers. This off-sets the number of emissions that are put into the air, and also keeps the 100-year-old building’s electric bill low each month.
Last year in the Denver metro area, close to 12,000 jobs had been lost– and the number continues to grow each day. Although not as noticeable as other states, the Denver Metro is definitely feeling the recession. President Obama’s stimulus package will (hopefully) help bring more jobs to our great state, as well as encourage people to go out; buy a house or a car and get a tax break while doing so. It will also bring a few dollars to those who haven’t been so lucky in this economy and help our state clean up roads and things they haven’t been able to because of budget cuts.
No matter which side of the fence you are on with our President– it was awesome to see our president in town, talking about how proud he is of OUR state. Wasn’t it?
